definately do a day trip or night camp over to the lion park in johannesburg. A suprise sighting of Kevin Richardson could even be in store and if you are not inspired and amazed at this man’s talent and love with wildlife then you can always opt for playing with the cubs.

Take a ride on the wheel of excellence at the V & A Waterfront. I did it during the World Cup. It’s our very own London Eye…pretty cool and the views are awesome. The VIP carriages have champagne and cigars!

Putt Putt/ Adventure Golf at Brightwater Commons or Fourways Mall is a great chill, and can be done during the day as some healthy outdoor fun, or it can be enjoyed at night where it’s a real adventure when you lose your ball…

Robertson – We have plenty of wine farms here, and they all do tastings (for free!). It’s only 2 hours drive from Cape Town, and it’s a beautiful town with friendly people and plenty of award winning wines to try and take home to enjoy.

My kids love the Johannesburg Zoo, Gold Reef City, Santarama Miniland even though these are obvious choices. Less obvious choices are Lifestyle Garden Centre on Beyers Naude Drive and the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens.

Experience Durban from a different angle by going horse riding on the beach with Horseback Beach Adventures. They have very reasonable rates at R250pp for a two hour ride and R350pp for a three hour ride. You can find more deetails and book by going to their website . I have ridden a few times there and keep going back.

Readers Restaurant is an institution in Tulbagh, and on balmy summer nights there is nowhere else you would want to be than on Readers stoep enjoying a glass of Chardonnay. Housed in the oldest building in Tulbagh’s Church Street, and offering fine local and international cuisine and wonderful ambiance, Carol’s quirky restaurant menu changes daily according to what is freshest and in season. Her ostrich with Amarula berry sauce followed by a medley of homemade ice creams is a must.

    Readers Restaurant, 12 Church Street, Tulbagh, +27 (0)23 230 0087

Lunch, teas, drinks and dinner served. Restaurant closed Tuesdays.
